Queenslanders and those in parts of New South Wales face an extremely challenging time due to the impact of the floods.
Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes, businesses and even loved ones. As the water begins to recede and the clean up begins, we wanted to do our bit and share information on what disaster relief payments are available and who is eligible.
The following information has been gathered from the government disaster relief payment websites.
The QLD Disaster Recovery Payment
LGAs That Are Eligible:
The disaster recovery payment is available to residents in the following local government areas:
- Brisbane
- Fraser Coast
- Gladstone
- Gold Coast
- Gympie
- Ipswich
- Lockyer Valley
- Logan
- Moreton Bay
- Noosa
- North Burnett
- Redland
- Scenic Rim
- Somerset
- South Burnett
- Southern Downs
- Sunshine Coast
- Toowoomba
- Western Downs
What Is The QLD Disaster Recovery Payment?
It is a lump sum payment available to those who have been seriously impacted by the floods. For example:
- you were seriously injured
- you’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing
- the flood caused major damage to your home.
If you’re eligible, you’ll get:
- $1,000 per adult
- $400 for each child younger than 16.
What Is The QLD Disaster Recovery Allowance?
This support is available if you have lost income as a direct result of the February 2022 floods.
This is available to residents in the above LGAs.
Disaster Recovery Allowance is a short term payment for a maximum of 13 weeks. They will pay this from the date you started losing income as a direct result of the South East Queensland floods starting in February 2022.
If you’re eligible, it is the equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your circumstances.
The Northern NSW Disaster Recovery Payment
LGAs That Are Eligible:
- Armidale
- Ballina
- Bellingen
- Byron
- Clarence Valley
- Coffs Harbour
- Glen Innes Severn
- Hornsby
- Kempsey
- Kyogle
- Lismore
- Nambucca
- Port Macquarie/Hastings
- Richmond Valley
- Tenterfield
- The Hills
- Tweed
What Is The Northern NSW Disaster Recovery Payment?
It is a lump sum payment available to those who have been seriously affected by the storms and floods. For example:
- you were seriously injured
- you’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing
- the flood caused major damage to your home.
If you’re eligible, you’ll get:
- $1,000 per adult
- $400 for each child younger than 16.
What Is The Northern NSW Disaster Recovery Allowance?
The Disaster Recovery Allowance is a short term payment to help you if a disaster directly affects your income. It is available to those within the above listed LGAs.
You can get it for a maximum of 13 weeks. They will pay this from the date you started losing income as a direct result of the Northern NSW floods in February 2022.
If you’re eligible, it is the equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your circumstances.
